Relational Database Systems There are so many databases available for Linux that it warrants a separate web page to discuss them.
I've used a lot of spreadsheets since SuperCalc for CP/M in about 1985, and have been known on occasion to state vigorous opinions about them, both for good and bad. There are quite a number of Linux-based spreadsheet packages, and various additional products that include office productivity functionality.
Similarly, I have a web page on word processors. I don't "rant" quite as much about it.

These are "specialized" applications targeted at particular application areas. This is generally considered distinct from more generic "horizontal" applications such as spreadsheets and word processors that are useful in almost any sort of organization.

This is an integrated DB Development system that seems targetted at building 2 tier client server systems. Linux is one of the "server" platforms, as well as HP/UX and Windows NT. The programming language used is a version of "HP Business BASIC." The DBMS is "image-compatible" (whatever that means).
A "Personal Edition" of Eloquence are available "gratis" for Linux for noncommercial use; it is limited to two users, and a maximum database size of 50MB.

TSP 4.4, a commercial econometrics (statistics) package has been ported to Debian 2.x / Red Hat 5.x / libc6 / glibc . It is also available for Debian 1.x / Red Hat 4.x / libc5 .
TSP is command driven (i.e. programmable) and does not include graphics on linux. It can do some pretty serious number crunching (especially nonlinear regression and general maximum likelihood estimation with built-in analytic first and second derivatives).
