When I was living in Texas, I was a member of
Dallas/Fort Worth Unix Users Group (DFWUUG)
Between roughly 1985 and 1989, I was a student "member" (as an articling "student in accounts") of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario, the official accounting "body" of that jurisdiction. I do not hold any official accounting designation, but certainly have the general knowledge of matters financial that is associated with professional accounting. (See my financial links web page.)
I am quite active in use and advocacy of the Linux Operating System and the surrounding infrastructure.
While I can, on occasion, get a little "rabid" in my support, that normally really represents strong opposition to propaganda that masquerade as facts spread by certain commercial vendors. I am quite interested in the things being learned from other operating systems, and have no problems with the idea that other OSes such as NetBSD, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, HURD, sundry other Unixes, embedded systems such as QNX and even things like IBM's MVS may have proper places, each having particular strengths and weaknesses with respect to different sorts of applications.
I am a published author, one of the co-authors of the
book Professional Linux Programming
published by Wrox ; I
wrote chapters on CORBA
programming.
LPI Linux Certification Level 1
