What is particularly interesting is The book behind the book behind the book... which provides a great deal of useful information about the process of becoming a published author.
Consider Magnum, P.I.'s never-seen "Robin Masters," an author so rich that he owns a compound in Hawaii that he never actually visits, populated by a distinguished British butler, and a "security agent" that gets to drive a Ferrari. This is decidedly a fictional character: in real life, authors don't get paid nearly that well; they are lucky to get paid a wage that one could live on. There are a few Stephen Kings out there, but you and I are a lot more likely to make $12,000 writing a book.
