VMS is Digital(now Compaq)'s OS developed for VAX computers which now runs on Alpha systems. Noted for providing highly stable and reliable systems, the designer of VMS, David Cutler, was responsible for the initial design of Windows NT. Unfortunately, NT did not prove to be anywhere near as stable once Microsoft threw everything in that they wanted...
