Internet Policies and Protocols
Internet standards are set by a group known as the IETF - Internet Engineering Task Force. This body acts through various committees that are responsible for the manifold Internet-related services.
Their general direction is to develop protocols that allow implementation of Internet-based services. There are an increasing number of relatively specialized application-oriented protocols being developed.
One that looks pretty interesting is: Personal Data Interchange - vCard (Extended Bus. Crd. fmt), vCalendar (Scheduler protocol). It looks like many software vendors in the PIM area intend to adopt this protocol, which should allow data sharing between various scheduling applications.
